Resurrected from the 80’s, this chic, sophisticated yet feminine trend is back, and back with a bang, I must say!

Captivating the hearts of not only designers and flooding the runways, this spring trend has carved a place for itself in the hearts of most women.

Yes, I’m talking about the presently-most-wanted, closet must have of the season; the PEPLUM TREND.

For those of you who are still not familiar with this trend, a peplum is a piece of flared ruffle attached to the waist of either a blouse, a skirt, a jacket or a dress.

This versatile trend nips the waist-line creating a curvy, hourglass figure. Whereas, a fitted peplum works for naturally curvy women, complimenting their curves and on the other hand, helps tuck away a not so toned tummy.  (Miracle ain’t it? :P)

These aren’t the only reasons the peplum trend is so dearly loved. The peplum trend lends itself to various looks, when sported on a blouse combined with skinny jeans can be worn for night about town. While, on the other hand, a peplum on a pencil skirt or a dress could make for a great formal, dressy look.  A peplum could also translate from the sophisticated look and turn into a more perky, up-beat, fun look when mixed with floral prints and bright accessories.

There are so many ways to wear peplum. You can wear an understated black peplum top with a silk printed skirt or a printed peplum top and colored pants, or a floral top with a peplum jacket, so many options! Here are 2 outfit ideas I came up with!

Although still inching its way to popularity in India, its presence isn’t completely absent. Look at these celebs rocking their peplum pieces! And Other than high end stores like Zara and Mango who have peplum in their collections, local boutiques in Bandra also house this trend. I found this lovely pink peplum dress in Preciosa, bandra!
